Call for Immediate Action on Teachers' Demands

The leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, Sharad Pawar, has urged the Maharashtra government to take swift action in response to the protests by teachers from government-aided and partially aided schools across the state.

After meeting with the protesting educators at Azad Maidan in South Mumbai, Pawar emphasized that the government should not delay addressing their concerns. The teachers have expressed frustration over the lack of an increase in grant funding for their schools, despite government announcements.

Moreover, the grants that are being provided are disbursed in installments, which complicates the operational aspects of the schools. Pawar stated, “The state government should resolve this issue without taking more than a day. Having worked in various legislative bodies for the past 56 years, I understand how decisions are made.”

Accompanying Pawar were Lok Sabha member Nilesh Lanke and MLA Rohit Pawar, who criticized the installment-based grant distribution process, asserting, “Issuing orders without actual financial allocations is futile. Such orders should be discarded. The government cannot shirk its responsibilities.”

Teachers have been protesting for the past four days during the monsoon session of the state assembly. Pawar remarked, “Whether they are government or semi-government employees, all are vital. Teachers play a crucial role in imparting knowledge to society. It is the state government's duty to provide them with the opportunity to live a dignified and respectful life.”

He further noted that teachers shape the next generation, making it unacceptable for them to have to protest in the rain for their rightful demands in Maharashtra.
