Sharad Pawar's Insights on NCP's Evolution

On Tuesday, Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), expressed his surprise at the division within the party he co-founded 26 years ago. Speaking at an event marking the NCP's 26th anniversary, he acknowledged the challenges faced but praised the dedication of the party workers in pushing forward despite adversities. He remarked that while the party has encountered difficulties, the commitment of its members has remained unwavering. The unexpected split within the party was something he had never anticipated.

Pawar noted that some individuals had aligned themselves with different ideologies, which contributed to the division. He chose not to delve into this topic further but emphasized that those who remained loyal to the party did so because of its core principles. He predicted that the upcoming elections would present a different scenario. The NCP's split occurred in July 2023 when Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar's nephew, joined the then Shiv Sena-BJP coalition government. The faction led by Ajit Pawar retained the party's name and symbol, while the group under the former Union Agriculture Minister was designated as NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar).

In related news, senior NCP leader Jayant Patil expressed his desire to resign from the position of Maharashtra state president, stating that it is time for the party to embrace new faces. Speaking at the same anniversary event in Pune, where Sharad Pawar and other senior leaders were present, Patil acknowledged the opportunities he received from Pawar over the past seven years. He urged Pawar to make a thoughtful decision regarding the party's future, emphasizing the journey ahead.
