Sharad Pawar's Remarks on Political Opportunism

On Tuesday, Sharad Pawar, the leader of the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party), subtly criticized his nephew Ajit Pawar's opportunistic political maneuvers, suggesting that some individuals are aligning with the BJP solely for power. While addressing party workers in Pimpri Chinchwad, the senior Pawar indicated his willingness to collaborate with those who adhere to the ideologies of Gandhi, Nehru, Phule, and Ambedkar, but firmly stated that he would never accept anyone engaging in opportunistic politics.

He remarked that there is a need for unity, but questioned who exactly should be included in this unity. He expressed his readiness to work with individuals who share the ideologies of Gandhi, Nehru, Phule, and Ambedkar. Without naming anyone specifically, he noted that some members had left the party he founded, while new individuals were joining. He stated, 'All refers to those who believe in the ideologies of Gandhi, Nehru, Jyotirao Phule, and B.R. Ambedkar. I can accept them if they believe in and follow this ideology.'

Furthermore, he emphasized, 'However, if someone is aligning with the BJP for power, that does not align with the Congress ideology. Anyone can associate with anyone, but joining the BJP cannot be in line with Congress principles.' The senior Pawar's comments come at a time when speculation is rife about a potential merger between two factions of the NCP, as he and Ajit Pawar have been seen together at several public events recently.
