Internal Inquiry Launched Amid Corruption Allegations

The Shapoorji Pallonji Group, a leading player in the engineering and construction sector, announced on Saturday that it has commenced an internal investigation into the conduct of several company officials who were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a bribery case.


According to officials, the CBI apprehended Jivan Lal Lavidia, the Income Tax Commissioner (Exemptions) in Hyderabad, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹70 lakh to resolve an appeal in favor of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group.


Lavidia, an officer from the 2004 batch of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS), was arrested alongside Virl Kantilal Mehta, the Group's Deputy General Manager (Taxation), Sai Ram Palisetty, Natta Veera Naga Sri Ram Gopal, and Sajida Mazhar Hussain Shah.


In response to this incident, the SP Group issued a statement emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations and confirming that an internal investigation has already been initiated. The group stated that it will take necessary actions based on the findings of the inquiry.
