Hope's Inspirational Chase

During a challenging 352-run chase against India, Shai Hope recalled advice from former Indian captain MS Dhoni. Dhoni's words, 'You always have more time than you think,' encouraged Hope to maintain his composure, ultimately leading him to score an impressive unbeaten 162 and secure a remarkable five-wicket victory for the West Indies.

In the third and final ODI held in Mullanpur on Saturday, Hope's stellar performance included 162 runs off 143 deliveries, helping the West Indies achieve their highest successful ODI chase. This victory not only stunned India but also provided a significant boost in confidence for the team. Hope, who kept wickets for the entire match and opened the batting, overcame cramps to guide his team to success with a brilliant century.

Dhoni's Wisdom and Team Resilience

Hope expressed his thoughts on the chase, stating, "It's always easier in India, especially with the dew. I wanted to finish the series strongly, and I'm glad we succeeded. I felt some discomfort around my groin but pushed through. We were down a batter, possibly two, so it was a challenge. My conversation with MS Dhoni was crucial; he reminded me to stay patient and break the chase down. I anticipated India would need to adjust their fielders for the over-rate penalty, which helped me remain calm."

Reflecting on the series, Hope noted, "We played some excellent cricket at times. The batters showed consistency, which we have been striving for. I hope our bowling can improve in the future. As for the upcoming T20s, I have two days to recover, so I should be ready to go."

West Indies' Consolation Win

This victory served as a consolation for the West Indies, who had already lost the three-match series after India won the first two matches.

India set a formidable target with KL Rahul scoring 129*, Rohit Sharma contributing 92, and Ruturaj Gaikwad adding 57, leading to a total of 351/7. In response, Shai Hope's century, along with valuable contributions from Amir Jangoo (67) and Keemo Paul (44), propelled the West Indies to victory in just 48.2 overs.
