Shafali Verma Faces Disciplinary Action
Shafali Verma, a key player for the Indian women's cricket team, has received an official reprimand for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I match against Zimbabwe in Raipur on Sunday. The ICC's findings indicated that Verma breached Article 2.2, which pertains to the misuse of cricket equipment or clothing, as well as ground fixtures during an international match.
Along with the reprimand, Verma has incurred one demerit point on her disciplinary record, marking her first offense within a 24-month timeframe. The incident took place during the 12th over of the match when Verma, frustrated after dropping a catch, threw the ball to the ground. She acknowledged her mistake and accepted the proposed sanction from G.S. Lakshmi, a member of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, thus avoiding a formal hearing.
