SGPC Condemns Alleged Insult to Sikh Gurus by AAP Leader
SGPC's Resolution Against AAP Leader's Remarks
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has recently passed a resolution condemning remarks made by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi during the concluded winter session of the Delhi Assembly, which were deemed disrespectful towards Sikh Gurus.
According to officials, the meeting of the SGPC's executive committee was chaired by its president, Harjinder Singh Dhami. During this session, a resolution was adopted against Atishi's alleged derogatory comments, and it was decided to initiate strict action against the senior AAP leader.
The controversy escalated following discussions in the Delhi Assembly on January 6 regarding an event organized by the Delhi government to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, which led to a significant political dispute involving the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi and the AAP in Punjab.
Dhami stated, “The use of derogatory language about Sikh Gurus by an elected representative in the Delhi Assembly hurts Sikh sentiments. Legal action will be taken against the AAP leader for this reprehensible behavior.”
