Severe Weather Disrupts Flight Operations in Delhi

Heavy Rain and Winds Cause Chaos in Delhi

In Delhi, a night of intense rainfall and strong winds led to significant disruptions in flight operations, uprooted trees, and downed power poles, resulting in flooding in various areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that from 11:30 PM to 5:30 AM, the city recorded 81.2 millimeters of rain, accompanied by winds reaching speeds of 82 kilometers per hour.

The heavy downpour caused waterlogging on several roads in the national capital, including Moti Bagh, Minto Road, Delhi Cantonment, and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg. Additionally, numerous trees and electricity poles were knocked down due to the adverse weather conditions.

As a result of the severe weather, operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport were affected. The airline 'IndiGo' posted an update at 3:59 AM, indicating that adverse weather in Delhi was causing temporary disruptions in flight operations.

The airline noted that conditions were gradually improving, but some obstacles remained in the airspace. They assured passengers that flights would resume as soon as conditions became favorable. By 5:54 AM, they reported that flight operations had returned to normal as the skies cleared over Delhi.

According to information available on the flight tracking website FlightRadar24.com, several flights experienced delays, with some cancellations and an average departure delay of over 30 minutes.
