Severe Weather Warning for the National Capital

Residents of the national capital and nearby regions received a significant warning on Sunday evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'Red Alert' for several areas in Delhi, indicating the need for 'immediate action.' The weather agency has predicted heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, hail, and dust storms.

Officials have advised the public to remain vigilant due to the anticipated adverse weather conditions. A 'Red Alert' signifies the necessity for immediate measures, highlighting the seriousness of the weather situation. According to the IMD, there is a strong likelihood of thunderstorms, hail, dust storms, and moderate rainfall in the city, with winds potentially reaching speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour.

Areas Affected by the Weather Alert

The IMD has specifically issued a 'Red Alert' for regions including Outer North Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi, South-West Delhi, parts of North Delhi, Central Delhi, North-East Delhi, and Shahdara. An 'Orange Alert' has been issued for South Delhi, South-East Delhi, and certain areas of North Delhi. Additionally, strong winds are expected in various locations across Delhi-NCR.

The weather department has warned that strong winds could lead to broken branches from large trees, uprooting of weak or old trees, and an increased risk of lightning strikes on tall trees and power poles.

Precautions and Safety Measures

Furthermore, the IMD has cautioned about potential damage to makeshift homes, huts, and weak structures, as well as the risk of partial collapses of walls, difficulties in driving vehicles, and possible road accidents. Authorities have recommended that individuals seek shelter in sturdy buildings, avoid weak structures, and stay away from windows during high winds.
