Severe Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and Storms Expected in Himachal Pradesh

Weather Forecast for Himachal Pradesh
Shimla: The Meteorological Department has warned that various regions in Himachal Pradesh are likely to experience heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hailstorms again on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
On Monday, several districts, including Kullu, Mandi, and Kangra, faced severe rain and strong storms. In certain areas, powerful winds uprooted trees, leading to vehicles being crushed beneath them. Tragically, two individuals lost their lives in Mandi and Kangra when trees fell on their cars.
The weather department has predicted that strong winds and hailstorms will persist in different parts of the state on Tuesday and Wednesday, posing a significant risk to local agriculture. Crops such as apples, tomatoes, and various vegetables could suffer severe damage due to these adverse weather conditions.
The unpredictable weather in Himachal Pradesh is expected to continue until May 21, with light rain anticipated in the mid-hill areas, while higher elevations may experience light rain or even snowfall.
Storm Warnings Issued
The weather department has issued a storm and heavy rain warning for five districts: Mandi, Kullu, Chamba, Una, and Kangra, over the next two days.
Farmers are urged to take necessary precautions to safeguard their crops. Suggested measures include reinforcing field structures and checking protective fruit bags to minimize potential damage.
Tourism Surge Amid Rising Temperatures
As temperatures rise in the plains, a surge of tourists is heading to the hills. Popular hill stations were bustling with visitors over the weekend, and hotel bookings for June are already on the rise. This influx of tourists has brought renewed hope to local tourism businesses.
