Devastating Storm Hits Uttar Pradesh
Trees fell on vehicles as storm wreaks havoc in Uttar Pradesh.
Lucknow, May 14: A fierce storm, accompanied by heavy rainfall, lightning, and strong winds, has tragically resulted in the deaths of at least 56 individuals across various districts in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.
Official reports indicate that Prayagraj recorded 17 fatalities, Bhadohi 16, Fatehpur nine, Badaun five, Pratapgarh four, while Chandauli and Kushinagar each reported two deaths, and one person lost their life in Sonbhadra.
In response to the calamity, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath acknowledged the loss of life and the extensive damage caused by the unexpected weather conditions. He has instructed officials to ensure that relief efforts reach the affected families within a 24-hour timeframe.
Prayagraj witnessed numerous fatalities due to collapsing buildings and fallen trees during the storm.
In Bhadohi, officials confirmed that at least 16 individuals perished, with many homes damaged and electric poles uprooted.
According to Fatehpur's Additional District Magistrate Avinash Tripathi, nine people died and 16 were injured due to storm-related incidents. He noted that eight fatalities occurred in Khaga tehsil, while a woman died when a wall collapsed in Sadar tehsil.
In Pratapgarh, four individuals lost their lives in separate incidents involving wall collapses, shed collapses, and lightning strikes amid the severe weather.
A tragic incident in Kanpur Dehat involved a 19-year-old woman who was struck by lightning while sheltering under a tree with goats during the downpour. Several goats also perished, and another man was injured.
Deoria reported two additional deaths due to lightning strikes, while in Sonbhadra, a man died after being trapped under a tree that was uprooted by the storm.
Chief Minister Adityanath has directed district magistrates and officials to visit the affected regions and provide all necessary support to the victims and their families. He has also instructed the revenue and agriculture departments, along with insurance companies, to assess the damage and report back to the government.
