Impact of Heavy Rainfall in Uttar Pradesh
Continuous heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh has severely affected daily life across numerous cities. Approximately 25 urban areas are experiencing flooding, with streets and low-lying regions submerged. Reports indicate that water has entered homes, hospitals, and government buildings, particularly affecting over 500 houses in Kanpur and Unnao, while a police station in Pratapgarh has also been inundated.
Traffic Disruptions Due to Flooding
The persistent rain and rising water levels have significantly impacted transportation. Accumulated water on several roads has hindered vehicle movement, causing difficulties for residents in carrying out their daily activities. Additionally, a section of the Ganga Expressway in Unnao has reportedly collapsed, prompting relevant agencies to monitor the situation closely.
Challenging Conditions in Varanasi
In Varanasi, the rising water level of the Ganges has created challenging conditions around the ghats. Reports suggest that over 100 small temples have been affected by flooding. Residents living near the river are being advised to remain vigilant due to the increasing water levels.
Vehicle Trapped in Rishikesh
The heavy rainfall has also impacted Rishikesh in Uttarakhand, where a vehicle became trapped in the swift currents of the Bina River. Following the incident, a team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) arrived and successfully rescued two individuals from the vehicle. Furthermore, the rising water level of the Ganges has led to flooding at Triveni Ghat.
School Closures in Affected Districts
In light of the adverse weather and flooding, authorities have decided to close schools in eight districts of Uttar Pradesh. The administration is continuously monitoring the situation in the affected areas and is prepared to deploy relief and rescue teams as necessary.
Rain Alerts Across Multiple States
The active monsoon is impacting several northern states, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. Weather alerts have been issued for heavy rainfall and strong winds. In response to these warnings, local administrations are advised to remain alert and encourage residents to stay away from flooded areas and swift currents.
