According to available data, 118 roads are currently closed, and 216 drinking water schemes have been impacted. This situation has caused considerable inconvenience for residents, affecting both mobility and water supply. The recent monsoon-related incidents have also inflicted substantial damage on public infrastructure. As per government reports, from the onset of the monsoon until August 15, 183 fatalities have been recorded due to rain-related events, with estimated damages exceeding ₹972 crores.
Challenges in Water Supply
The heavy rainfall has heightened the risk of landslides in hilly areas. Consequently, debris on several roads has necessitated traffic halts, impacting not only locals but also tourists and essential services.
Authorities are actively working with machinery and personnel to reopen the closed roads. Previously, numerous roads were also shut down due to rain, and teams from the Public Works Department and disaster management have been engaged in restoring connectivity.
Increased Water Levels in Rivers and Streams
The continuous rainfall has caused water levels in many rivers and seasonal streams in Himachal to rise. In light of this, officials have urged residents to avoid approaching riverbanks and to refrain from unnecessary travel. Recent weather warnings indicate the likelihood of heavy rainfall in several districts of the state.
