Severe Rainfall Causes Flooding in Gurugram, Disrupts Daily Life

Impact of Heavy Rain in Gurugram

On August 7, Gurugram experienced significant flooding in various areas following heavy rainfall on Friday. This led to many residents being confined to their homes, with several companies advising employees to work remotely. Schools also declared holidays and shifted to online classes.

The Delhi-Gurugram Expressway was among the most affected regions. In DLF Sector-42, the Golf Course Road in front of Global Foyer Mall was completely submerged. Long queues of vehicles formed in several locations due to the flooding, particularly near the Gateway Tower Metro Station, where a large section of the expressway was inundated.

This monsoon season, Sheetala Mata Road has been one of the most flood-prone areas in Gurugram, and it was once again submerged. The poor infrastructure conditions were evident in Rajendra Park, the Daulatabad industrial area, and surrounding colonies. Meanwhile, the situation appeared different on the Delhi-Jaipur highway due to a VIP visit.

In the Narasinghpur area, known for flooding and heavy traffic jams, conditions remained normal. Vehicles on the highway were moving at regular speeds, and no traffic congestion was reported. The administration had prepared the road for limited traffic for the Chief Minister's 'Van Mahotsav' event in Manesar.

According to official reports, Gurugram tehsil recorded 60 millimeters (mm) of rainfall from 8 AM to 5 PM. Sohna received 82 mm, Badshahpur 74 mm, Wazirabad 68.5 mm, and both Kadipur and Harsaru saw 60 mm of rain. Flooding occurred at several major intersections and service lanes, including Rajiv Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, Sohna Road, and the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway.
