Heavy Rainfall Leads to Emergency Situations in Delhi

New Delhi, August 7 - The capital city experienced torrential rain from midnight Thursday until Friday evening, prompting the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) to receive over two dozen reports of collapsed houses, falling building parts, and uprooted trees. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported. According to the fire department, these incidents were recorded between midnight and 5:30 PM on Friday during the continuous downpour.

In one notable incident, three women became trapped when a tree fell on their house, but firefighters successfully rescued them. The fire department indicated that nine of the reports were related to complete house collapses or parts of buildings falling. The heavy rainfall throughout the day led to significant waterlogging in various areas of the city, disrupting daily life and causing traffic to come to a standstill on the roads.

Earlier in the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Delhi, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall in several areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Subsequently, some weather stations recorded over 110 mm of rainfall. The combination of rain and flooding resulted in slow-moving vehicles on many major routes.

Passengers took to social media to voice their frustrations regarding poor traffic management and flooding, leading to thousands being stuck in traffic jams during peak hours. Authorities are currently focused on clearing fallen trees from affected areas, managing the flooding, monitoring dilapidated buildings, and restoring normal traffic flow.
