Weather Forecast for Delhi Amidst Extreme Heat

As Delhi grapples with intense heat, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for thunderstorms and rain on Friday, potentially providing some relief to residents of the national capital. The minimum temperature recorded on Friday was 31 degrees Celsius, which is four degrees higher than the seasonal average.


The IMD anticipates that the maximum temperature could hover around 42 degrees Celsius. At 8:30 AM, the relative humidity was noted at 67 percent. The weather department has indicated a likelihood of partial cloud cover, with thunderstorms and rain expected later in the day, offering hope for respite from the sweltering heat.


Due to the extreme temperatures, a red alert has been issued in Delhi, marking the highest level of warning. The mercury has soared between 41 to 45 degrees Celsius. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 195 at 9 AM, categorizing it as 'moderate.'


The CPCB classifies AQI levels as follows: 0-50 is 'good', 51-100 is 'satisfactory', 101-200 is 'moderate', 201-300 is 'poor', 301-400 is 'very poor', and 401-500 is 'severe.'
