Severe Heatwave Grips Northern India: Health Risks Rise
Intense Heatwave Affects Daily Life
The scorching heat across the country is becoming increasingly unbearable for residents. The relentless rise in temperatures, coupled with power outages and hot winds, has made life difficult. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning indicating that severe heat conditions will persist in several regions of North and Northwest India until May 27. According to the weather agency, clear skies and dry conditions are expected in the coming days, which could exacerbate the sun's intensity. The situation in the plains of North India remains alarming, with temperatures recorded 3 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal. The intense sunlight and hot winds have made it challenging for people to step outside. Medical professionals have cautioned that negligence could be fatal, as hospitals are beginning to see an influx of patients suffering from heat-related illnesses.
Record Temperatures in Key Regions
Banda in Uttar Pradesh has been among the hottest areas, with temperatures soaring to a dangerous 48 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the national capital, Delhi, has been enduring extreme heat ranging from 44 to 46 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days. The situation has worsened across much of the country, as nighttime temperatures remain significantly elevated. These hot nights have compounded the discomfort for residents, increasing the risk of heat strokes, dehydration, and other serious health issues. The weather department advises people to avoid going out during the afternoon, stay hydrated, and remain vigilant. Experts warn that the upcoming days could prove even more perilous.
