Current Weather Conditions Across India

Severe Heatwave Grips India Amid Weather Changes

India is currently experiencing an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in several states. The heat is not only affecting daytime but is also making nights uncomfortably warm. Regions from Delhi to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are facing extreme heat conditions. On Tuesday, Banda in Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest temperature in the country at 44.2 degrees Celsius. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the severe heat and heatwave conditions are expected to persist in many states, while northeastern and hilly areas may witness rain, thunderstorms, and lightning.

Weather experts attribute the rapid changes in weather across different parts of the country to a western disturbance and various cyclonic circulation systems. The IMD forecasts heavy rainfall in northeastern states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, with wind speeds reaching 50-60 km/h and a risk of lightning strikes. Additionally, light to moderate rain with thunder is expected in southern states such as Kerala, Telangana, and Karnataka.

Meanwhile, the heatwave continues to intensify in northern and central India. States like Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar are likely to experience ongoing heatwave conditions, with temperatures potentially rising by 3-4 degrees Celsius, causing significant discomfort during the day.

Residents of Delhi are bracing for even more intense heat in the coming days. The IMD predicts a 2-3 degree increase in maximum temperatures, leading to heatwave-like conditions. For the next five days, temperatures are expected to remain above normal, with scorching sun and heat making outdoor activities challenging.

Nighttime relief seems unlikely, as 'warm nights' may persist, disrupting sleep for many. The weather department has advised the elderly, children, and those with health issues to take extra precautions.

In Uttar Pradesh, the weather is showing two distinct patterns: severe heat in western and central regions, while Uttarakhand may experience some rainfall. A heatwave warning has been issued for western Uttar Pradesh until April 25, with rising temperatures making it difficult to venture outside during the day.

Conversely, Uttarakhand and the western Himalayan regions may find some respite as a new western disturbance is expected to activate from April 23, bringing light rain and potential snowfall in the mountains, which could lower temperatures and provide some relief from the heat.

In Bihar and Jharkhand, weather conditions are expected to be tumultuous. Bihar may continue to experience heatwave conditions on April 22, with temperatures likely to rise significantly. Additionally, some areas may see thunderstorms with winds reaching 50-60 km/h, which could lead to sudden weather changes. In Jharkhand, while the heat will persist, some regions may receive light rain with thunder, offering slight relief, although humidity and heat will remain a concern. The weather department has advised caution due to the risk of lightning in these states.

Across the rest of India, eastern states like West Bengal and Odisha will also experience mixed weather with rain and storms. In Maharashtra, Goa, and parts of Gujarat, light rain accompanied by strong winds is anticipated. Southern India is likely to see thunderstorms and rain in several states as well.
