Intense Heatwave Forecast for Delhi

After a brief respite from the heat, residents of Delhi should brace themselves for a return of high temperatures this week. The mercury is anticipated to soar beyond 45 degrees Celsius, with persistent heat waves expected throughout the day. Even during the night, relief may be minimal due to a lack of wind.


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extreme heat conditions in the national capital, with temperatures potentially reaching 44 degrees Celsius. Early morning readings showed a temperature of 27.6 degrees Celsius.


According to the IMD, temperatures are likely to rise further over the next three days, possibly hitting 45 degrees Celsius.


Yellow Alert Issued for Heat and Humidity

The weather department has issued a yellow alert, indicating that heat and humidity are expected to persist in the national capital for at least four days. While strong surface winds may occur during the day, they are unlikely to provide significant relief from the heat. At 8:30 AM, humidity levels were recorded at 48 percent.


On Sunday, Delhi experienced a maximum temperature of 42.1 degrees Celsius, marking the highest temperature recorded this June. Additionally, the air quality index (AQI) in the national capital was noted at 219 on Monday morning, categorizing it as poor. According to CPCB data, AQI levels are classified as follows: 0-50 is 'good', 51-100 is 'satisfactory', 101-200 is 'moderate', 201-300 is 'poor', 301-400 is 'very poor', and 401-500 is 'severe'.
