Extreme Weather Conditions in Delhi

As the national capital experiences its hottest night on record, a 'yellow alert' has been issued for thunderstorms and rain in several areas on Tuesday. Weather data indicates that the minimum temperatures at various locations were recorded between 4.6 to 5.4 degrees Celsius above normal, signaling a 'hot night' condition.


According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a 'hot night' is defined when the maximum temperature reaches 40 degrees Celsius or higher, and the minimum temperature remains 4.5 to 6.4 degrees Celsius above the average.


Data from Wednesday shows that Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 28.4 degrees Celsius, which is 4.6 degrees above normal. In Palam, the temperature was noted at 27.4 degrees Celsius, 2.5 degrees higher than usual. Lodhi Road reported a temperature of 26.6 degrees Celsius, exceeding normal by 3.6 degrees, while the Ridge area recorded 26.2 degrees Celsius, which is 1.3 degrees above average. Ayanagar saw a temperature of 29.1 degrees Celsius, 5.4 degrees higher than normal.


Meteorologists predict that the maximum temperature on Tuesday could range between 39 to 40 degrees Celsius. Additionally, due to cyclonic circulation, thunderstorms and rain are also anticipated.


Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded at 196, falling into the 'moderate' category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), an AQI of 0 to 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'.
