Severe Fog Disrupts Flights at Delhi Airport: 27 Cancellations Reported

Impact of Fog on Flight Operations

On Thursday, dense fog significantly reduced visibility at Delhi Airport, leading to the cancellation of 27 flights across various airlines, along with delays in several others. This information was provided by an official from Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL).

The official stated, "Due to the thick fog and low visibility, 27 flights have been canceled, including 16 departures and 11 arrivals."

In an advisory issued to passengers on Thursday morning, DIAL noted that flight operations were currently under CAT (Category) III conditions due to the dense fog, which may result in delays or disruptions in operations.

Such operations require not only that pilots be adequately trained but also that the aircraft meet specific standards. CAT III refers to a type of Instrument Landing System (ILS) approach that allows aircraft to land in very low visibility conditions, such as fog, rain, or snow, with a runway visual range (RVR) of 50 to 200 meters.
