Severe Fog and Cold Wave Disrupts Rajasthan's Transportation
Impact of Fog and Cold Wave in Rajasthan
Jaipur, January 7, 2026: Rajasthan continues to face the challenges posed by dense fog and a cold wave. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for extremely dense fog across various regions in both eastern and western Rajasthan, leading to significantly reduced visibility. This morning, visibility in several areas dropped to between 50 and 200 meters, severely affecting traffic conditions.
Vehicles were seen crawling along the roads due to the fog. Major highways, including the Jaipur-Delhi route, experienced heavy traffic jams. Many drivers resorted to using fog lights, yet the risk of accidents has escalated. The northern and eastern districts of the state, such as Sikar, Alwar, Bharatpur, Churu, and Bikaner, reported the thickest fog.
Rail services have also been disrupted, with numerous trains running late and some being canceled. Due to the fog in northern India, the railway authorities have advised passengers to remain vigilant.
Air travel has not been spared either, as several flights at Jaipur International Airport were delayed or diverted. Passengers are encouraged to check for updates from their airlines.
According to the IMD, these conditions are expected to persist for the next few days. A cold wave and cold day conditions are anticipated in eastern Rajasthan from January 6 to 10, while dense fog is likely to continue in western Rajasthan until January 8-10. Minimum temperatures may drop to between 4 and 6 degrees Celsius.
