Severe Flooding in Assam: Rising Water Levels and Displacement

Current Flood Situation in Assam
Guwahati, June 2: The flood conditions in Assam have become increasingly dire as of Monday, with officials reporting rising water levels across various regions of the state.
The Brahmaputra River is currently flowing above the danger threshold at both Dibrugarh and Nimatighat. Additionally, its tributaries, the Dhansiri at Numaligarh and the Kopili at Kampur, are also exceeding safe levels.
In the Barak River, water levels are above the danger mark at Badarpur Ghat, with its tributaries, the Kushiyara at Sribhumi and the Katakhal in Matizuri, similarly affected, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
Forecasts from the India Meteorological Department's Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati indicate that moderate rainfall is expected across most of Assam, with heavy to very heavy rainfall anticipated in certain areas and extremely heavy rainfall in isolated locations.
Currently, 764 villages are submerged, and approximately 3,524.38 hectares of agricultural land have suffered damage throughout Assam, as reported by ASDMA.
The local administration is managing 155 relief camps and distribution centers across 12 districts, providing assistance to 10,272 displaced individuals.
In the last 24 hours, authorities have distributed significant quantities of essential supplies, including 1,090.08 quintals of rice, 284.63 quintals of dal, 952.76 quintals of salt, and 4,726.26 liters of mustard oil to flood-affected residents.
Floodwaters have caused damage to embankments, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure in numerous districts throughout the state.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma warned on Sunday evening that the situation could deteriorate further for those residing in low-lying and riverbank areas due to ongoing heavy rainfall in Assam and surrounding regions.
As per the latest ASDMA report, the death toll from this year's floods and landslides has risen to 10.
