Severe Flooding Disrupts Traffic on National Highway 315 in Assam
Flooding Causes Major Disruptions in Margherita
Parts of National Highway 315 completely submerged under water
Margherita, June 26: Continuous heavy rainfall has led to significant flooding along a key section of National Highway 315 in Assam's Margherita, halting traffic and causing major disruptions to daily life in the area.
The area from Dihing to the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) was particularly affected, with floodwaters rapidly covering the highway, leaving many drivers stranded and forcing commuters to navigate through waist-high water.
Locals described the inundated highway as resembling a "river," making it challenging to identify the road beneath the rushing waters. Numerous vehicles became trapped in the flooded section, resulting in extensive traffic jams and hindering transportation throughout the region.
The flooding also impacted schoolchildren, with parents seen carrying their kids through the floodwaters to ensure their safety while crossing the road. Many residents had to postpone their daily routines as movement became nearly impossible.
Community members attributed the persistent flooding to inadequate drainage systems and the lack of action from authorities despite numerous complaints over the years.
One local resident expressed frustration, stating, "Every time it rains, crossing the road becomes a challenge. This issue keeps recurring, yet no lasting solutions have been implemented. Water from the nearby hills quickly gathers here, turning the highway into a river. Vehicles find it difficult to navigate, putting commuters in danger each monsoon season." Residents voiced concerns that despite facing this annual crisis, neither the government nor local officials have taken sufficient measures to enhance drainage or prevent water accumulation.
