Impact of Natural Calamity on Political Figures

Mandi: The recent natural disaster in the Seraj area of Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, has impacted even notable political figures. The ancestral residence of Jai Ram Thakur, the Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister, located in Tandi village, has suffered partial damage due to heavy rainfall and subsequent landslides.

Reports indicate that the adjacent toilet and cowshed were affected, necessitating the evacuation of the cowshed. Additionally, cracks have formed in both the ancestral home and a nearby structure. Jai Ram Thakur resided in this house for many years before constructing a new home in close proximity.

Currently, his second elder brother, Biri Singh, lives in the ancestral home with his family. Just downhill, his eldest brother, Anant Ram, has also built a new house, which is now at risk from the ongoing landslide issues.

The damage was exacerbated by intense rainfall on June 30 and July 1, which caused a section of the nearby road to collapse, leading to structural cracks in the homes. In response, local authorities have taken measures to prevent further damage by placing tarpaulin sheets at the landslide-prone areas.

On Thursday, Jai Ram Thakur visited his ancestral home to evaluate the damage and check on his family. He also assessed the broader impact of the disaster in the Seraj region. Sources indicate that both of his brothers continue to reside in the affected homes, but during heavy rainfall, they temporarily relocate to Jai Ram Thakur’s newer residence for safety.

This incident underscores the extensive and indiscriminate destruction caused by the monsoon rains in the state, affecting not only ordinary citizens but also high-profile political leaders and their families.
