Severe Cold Wave Hits Jharkhand: Temperature Drops to 0.8°C
Cold Wave Alert in Jharkhand
In Jharkhand, a cold wave has prompted alerts across 13 districts, with temperatures plummeting to 0.8 degrees Celsius in Gumla on Thursday, as reported by a meteorological official.
The official indicated that a yellow alert (stay alert) has been issued for several districts including Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Latehar, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Lohardaga, Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega, and West Singhbhum, effective until 8:30 AM on Friday.
According to the weather bulletin, Gumla recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 0.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday, followed by Khunti at 2.7 degrees and Daltonganj at 3.7 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) noted that Bokaro and Simdega registered minimum temperatures of 4.9 and 5.2 degrees Celsius, respectively, while Lohardaga saw a temperature of 6.0 degrees Celsius.
The bulletin also mentioned that Ranchi, the state capital, recorded a temperature of 9 degrees Celsius, and Saraikela noted 6.1 degrees Celsius. The cold wave is attributed to northwestern to western winds at lower tropospheric levels in Jharkhand.
Abhishek Anand, the deputy director at the Ranchi meteorological center, stated that no significant changes in minimum temperatures are expected over the next two days, although a rise of up to three degrees Celsius may occur thereafter.
Meanwhile, the Ranchi administration has issued a notice urging residents to take precautions against the cold. Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri emphasized the importance of protecting oneself from health issues caused by the severe cold.
