Serious Allegations of Dowry Harassment and Triple Talaq in Uttar Pradesh

A troubling case from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, has raised significant concerns regarding dowry harassment and the application of the triple talaq law. This incident is linked to the Katghar police station area, where a married woman has made serious accusations against her husband and in-laws.

The victim's marriage took place on February 28, 2022, to a man from Lukandari Sarai in the Sambhal district. According to her, since the marriage, she has faced continuous harassment from her husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law over dowry demands. She also claimed that other family members, including her brother-in-law and brother-in-law, had inappropriate intentions towards her. Furthermore, she alleged that her husband had taken objectionable photos of her and threatened to share them online.

The woman stated that when she resisted these actions, she was subjected to physical violence. She claimed that the ongoing abuse and violence led to the premature death of her infant, born on January 11. However, these allegations are still under investigation.

According to the timeline, on August 30, 2023, she was reportedly beaten and thrown out of her home. Subsequently, on September 10, 2023, her husband and others came to her parental home, attempting to forcibly take her back. She alleged that they assaulted her and threatened her life during this confrontation. It was during this incident that her husband allegedly pronounced triple talaq, ending their relationship.

The victim further claimed that after the divorce was pronounced, she was pressured to undergo halala with her brother-in-law and brother-in-law, who allegedly attempted to sexually assault her.

Initially, the local police were accused of inaction regarding the case. However, following orders from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), a case was registered under the relevant sections, and an investigation was initiated.

This incident is part of a series of events recorded in 2023, highlighting issues of dowry harassment, marital disputes, and violations of the triple talaq law. As time passes, this case continues to be remembered as a serious social-criminal incident, with its ultimate truth to be determined through judicial processes.
