Selina Jaitly Seeks Justice for Brother Detained in UAE
A Challenging Year for Selina Jaitly
The past 14 months have been incredibly tough for Bollywood actress Selina Jaitly. Her brother, Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, has been held in custody in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since September 2024. After a prolonged struggle, a glimmer of hope has emerged with the intervention of the Delhi High Court. The court has issued a notice to the Ministry of External Affairs, requesting a report within four weeks and has directed the appointment of a nodal officer to facilitate legal and medical assistance for Vikrant Jaitly.
A Soldier's Legacy
In an interview with a news channel, Selina expressed her pride in her brother, who is a fourth-generation soldier dedicated to serving the nation. She highlighted Vikrant's involvement in numerous perilous missions and the serious injuries he has sustained. "I am not just an actress; I am a soldier's sister. My brother has served our country, and I firmly believe that the government will stand by him," she stated.
Circumstances of Detention
Vikrant Jaitly was reportedly detained in Abu Dhabi following an alleged kidnapping. According to available information, he was held incommunicado for eight months before being transferred to a detention center. The family has not received clear information regarding the reasons for his detention or the ongoing investigation. Recently, they obtained his detention number, prompting Selina to approach the court.
Court's Response
The Delhi High Court has taken cognizance of the matter and has requested the government to submit a status report within four weeks. Additionally, the court has ordered the appointment of a nodal officer to establish communication between the affected family and Vikrant, who is currently in custody. The next hearing is scheduled for December 4.
Legal Representation and Future Prospects
Selina's legal representatives, Raghav Kakkar and Madhav Agarwal, argued that this action would strengthen the ties between India and the UAE. They also mentioned that the government would provide a detailed report on the steps taken regarding the case. Selina described the court's decision as "light after a long darkness" and expressed hope for her brother's safe return to India.
Focus on Family
Selina Jaitly was last seen in the film 'Seasons Greetings,' but her primary focus now is on securing her brother's release. She emphasized that her sole aim is to bring her soldier brother home. She is also deeply concerned about his mental health, as it remains unclear how he has been treated during his detention.
A Sister's Plea
In a heartfelt appeal to the government, Selina stated that she is seeking help as a sister and is confident that the Indian government will make every effort to ensure her brother's safe return. In the current situation, this hope serves as her greatest strength.
