TMC MLA to Lay Foundation Stone in West Bengal
Suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir is set to lay the foundation stone for the Babri Masjid in Beldanga on Saturday. In anticipation of the event, authorities in Murshidabad district have ramped up security measures significantly.
Early on Saturday, police personnel gathered at the Beldanga police station and surrounding areas to maintain law and order ahead of the ceremony. A substantial number of security forces, including local and state police, have been deployed to prevent any untoward incidents. Kabir, who left his residence in Murshidabad under tight security, confirmed that preparations for the foundation-laying ceremony are proceeding smoothly.
Police Support and Community Involvement
Speaking to the media, Kabir stated, "I will lay the foundation stone for the Babri Masjid today. I have nothing more to say. The police are supporting me, and I have already communicated with them. Following the Calcutta High Court's order yesterday, the police have provided me with security." The court had issued directives regarding the situation in Murshidabad, leading to an increased police presence in the Beldanga area.
Kabir expressed gratitude for the cooperation from the administration, stating that they are working closely with the organizers of the event.
Ceremony Preparations Underway
He added, "Everything is fine. Please wait until noon; after that, we will begin reading the Quran, followed by the laying of the foundation stone. I am receiving full support from the administration. The Murshidabad police and state police are all cooperating with me, and I thank them for their assistance." Images from the area on Saturday morning showed residents preparing for the foundation-laying ceremony.
A local resident from North Barasat, Mohammad Safiqul Islam, was seen carrying bricks on his head as part of his contribution to the proposed structure. He mentioned, "I will go where Humayun Kabir will lay the foundation stone for the Babri Masjid. I am carrying bricks for the Babri Masjid." Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court refrained from intervening in matters related to the foundation-laying ceremony in Murshidabad on Friday.
