Security Guard Sentenced to 10 Years for Rape Under False Identity

A Navi Mumbai court has sentenced a 44-year-old security guard to ten years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a woman while impersonating a police officer in 2016.

Additional Sessions Judge Parag A. Sane of the Belapur court found the accused, Sagar Baburao Dhulap, guilty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 376 (rape), 170 (impersonation of a public servant), and 384 (extortion).

The court imposed a ten-year sentence for the rape charge, two years for impersonating a police officer, and three years for extortion, with all sentences to run concurrently. Additionally, a fine of ₹1,500 was levied against him.

This verdict was delivered on December 15, with a copy received on Monday. According to the prosecution, on February 13, 2016, the victim and a friend visited a lodge in Kurla, where the accused stopped them while posing as a police officer.

Dhulap threatened the victim, who was 22 at the time, with informing her parents and demanded ₹30,000. He forcibly took her to a lodge in Turbhe, where he committed the act of rape. Judge Sane dismissed the defense's argument that the victim's silence in a public place indicated consent.
