Security Forces Uncover Weapons and Explosives in Manipur Operations
Significant Seizures in Manipur
Imphal, Mar 21: On Friday, security personnel in Manipur confiscated a total of 29 firearms, ammunition, and 50 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) across various districts, both hilly and valley regions.
During a targeted operation, authorities recovered six firearms, which included an AK-56 rifle, along with three grenades and ammunition in the Wabagai Turel Mamei area of Kakching district, according to a police report.
In the vicinity of Loisi and Saivom villages in Tengnoupal district, 29 IEDs were seized, along with five locally manufactured hand grenades, five electric detonators, and additional explosive materials.
In Imphal West district, security forces also confiscated eleven pistols, 85 live rounds, four camouflage bulletproof vests, and three firearms from the Lamdeng and Kameng areas.
From the SL Zougam area under Machi police station in Tengnoupal, nine IEDs, one pistol, and ammunition were recovered.
The police statement noted that the IEDs were safely destroyed following established protocols and standard operating procedures.
Additionally, twelve IEDs, four radio sets, three pistols, and a grenade launcher were found in Yangoubung village, located near the India-Myanmar border, and these explosives were also neutralized on-site.
Five firearms and ammunition were seized from the Tekcham Sanji Ching foothills in Thoubal district.
Since the outbreak of ethnic violence two years ago, security forces have intensified their search operations in Manipur.
The ongoing conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities has resulted in over 260 fatalities and left thousands displaced since May 2023.
