Imphal, Apr 12: Security forces have been conducting joint combing operations for the third consecutive day in an effort to locate militants following the tragic death of a BSF constable in Ukhrul district, Manipur.

During these operations, officials reported the destruction of 21 illegally constructed bunkers.

Of these, 14 bunkers were dismantled in Sikibung village, while seven were taken down in Mongkot Chepu village, both under the jurisdiction of Litan Police Station in the hilly region.

These bunkers were reportedly established by militant groups to facilitate attacks on both security personnel and civilians.

A police spokesperson in Imphal indicated that both central and state security forces have escalated their search efforts throughout Ukhrul and neighboring districts to capture those responsible for the death of BSF constable Mithun Mandal.

The constable was fatally attacked on Friday while on Road Opening Party (ROP) duty alongside fellow BSF members in the district, which has been affected by violence.

After a solemn tribute, his remains were transported to his home in West Bengal on Saturday.

In a separate operation, security forces recovered arms and explosives from the tri-junction areas of Maojang, Libung, Gomnom, and T Khonunjang in Tengnoupal district, which shares a border with Myanmar.

The recovered items included two 9mm pistols with magazines, 13 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), combat uniforms, jungle shoes, and a backpack. All 13 IEDs were safely detonated on-site.

Additionally, search operations and area control exercises are ongoing in mixed-population and other vulnerable regions across several districts.

To enhance surveillance and limit the movement of unlawful elements, a total of 109 checkpoints have been established across both valley and hill districts.

Security forces are also providing escorts for vehicles, including trucks carrying essential goods, along the Imphal–Jiribam National Highway (NH-37), ensuring tight convoy protection in sensitive areas.

Manipur Police have advised the public to be cautious of rumors and to verify the authenticity of any videos circulating on social media. They emphasized that sharing unverified or misleading content could lead to legal consequences.
