Security Concerns Rise After Ambush on Assam Police Commandos
Late-Night Attack in Upper Assam
Margherita, Mar 22: A recent ambush in Upper Assam has resulted in injuries to four commandos from the Assam Police, raising new concerns regarding security in the area.
The incident occurred around 2 AM on Sunday at a police commando facility located at Jagun 10 Mile in Tinsukia district, where unidentified assailants launched a well-coordinated attack.
The injured personnel have been named as Chitranjan Mili and Debashis Bora from Jorhat, Ravi Garh from Chabua, and Jambuch Marak from Goalpara. They are currently receiving medical care.
Reports indicate that the attackers hurled at least five grenades into the camp before opening fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire that lasted approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
Local residents experienced a night filled with fear and chaos. One resident described the continuous and terrifying sounds of the attack, stating, 'It went on for 30–45 minutes. People here are terrified.' They called on authorities to enhance security measures.
'We need improved safety. The community is frightened, and these incidents must be addressed,' the resident emphasized.
While there has been no official confirmation regarding the perpetrators, suspicions are directed towards ULFA-Independent.
This incident has once again highlighted the precarious security situation in parts of Upper Assam, prompting authorities to consider increasing surveillance and operations following the attack.
