Security Breach at Journalists' Dinner: Armed Man Arrested
Incident at High-Profile Event
During a prestigious dinner for journalists attended by US President Donald Trump and various senior officials, a man armed with firearms and knives burst into the lobby on Saturday night. He attempted to reach the ballroom but was quickly apprehended by Secret Service agents. Fortunately, Trump was unharmed and was promptly escorted away from the scene.
A video broadcast by CBS News captured the moment of panic, with guests diving for cover under tables as the situation escalated. Gasps filled the air as attendees recognized the unfolding chaos, with journalists scrambling to communicate the incident. Amid the turmoil, shouts of 'Out of the way, sir!' and calls for people to duck were heard. Some guests reported gunfire outside the expansive ballroom located in the Washington Hilton, where the event was taking place.
As the president was led off the stage, a chant of 'God Bless America' emerged from the crowd. Trump stumbled briefly, seemingly tripping, but was quickly assisted by Secret Service personnel. Outside the venue, National Guard troops and various law enforcement agencies converged on the area, while helicopters hovered above.
Eyewitness Account of the Chaos
'Chaos lasted for 5-10 minutes': Eyewitness
Reena Bhardwaj, a reporter present at the event, recounted her experience, stating, 'Suddenly, we heard a noise that resembled dishes clattering. When I turned to investigate, I saw servers rushing in with their trays. I sensed something was amiss and that there had been a security breach. Everyone began to take cover under tables and lay on the ground. This lasted for about 5-10 minutes.'
After feeling secure enough to rise, Bhardwaj observed that President Trump was safe, and First Lady Melania Trump was also escorted to a secure area. She noted that after approximately 12-13 minutes, cabinet members, including Scott Bessent, Pete Hegesth, and Kash Patel, were led out. Eventually, after about 30-35 minutes, the hotel was sealed off.
Suspect in Custody
The individual responsible for the incident has been identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California. He is currently in custody.
