Security Breach at High-Profile Dinner: Trump Responds to Assassination Attempt
Incident at Journalists' Dinner
During a prestigious dinner for journalists attended by President Donald Trump and several senior officials, a man armed with firearms and knives attempted to breach security. The incident occurred in the lobby area as the assailant rushed towards the ballroom, but Secret Service agents quickly intervened and apprehended him. Fortunately, the president was unharmed and was swiftly escorted to safety.
In a subsequent press briefing, Trump was questioned about whether the incident might be connected to the ongoing tensions with Iran and the stalled negotiations in Islamabad. He responded, "I don't believe so. However, we will have more information soon. Our team is among the best in the world." He emphasized that this event would not alter his approach to the conflict in the Middle East, stating, "This will not deter me from achieving victory in Iran. I doubt this incident is related to the Iran situation, based on what we currently know."

New Offers from Iran Following Negotiation Cancellation
Trump Discusses Iran's New Proposal
In light of the stalled discussions with Iran, Trump revealed that the Iranian government had submitted a new peace proposal shortly after he called off a trip for the US delegation. He remarked, "They provided us with a document that could have been improved, and interestingly, just ten minutes after I canceled, we received a new proposal that was significantly better." This statement was made to reporters as he prepared to board Air Force One back to Washington from Florida.
While the President did not disclose specific details about the new proposal, he mentioned that Iran had made substantial offers. However, he reiterated that a key condition for any agreement is that Iran must not develop nuclear weapons.
Trump explained that he decided to cancel the latest round of negotiations due to the extensive travel involved and because his negotiators, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, were not meeting with Iran's leadership directly. He stated that the US would handle communications via phone, asserting, "They can reach out to us anytime they wish," and added, "We hold all the cards."
