Congress and DMK Negotiations on Seat Distribution

The President of the Tamil Nadu Congress, K. Selva Perunthagai, clarified on Monday that an agreement regarding seat sharing between the Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) will be reached following discussions. He emphasized that there is no confusion between the two parties. According to him, negotiations occur in every election, with each party seeking more seats, ultimately leading to a consensus. This time will be no different; we are requesting additional seats, and a compromise will be achieved.

Selva Perunthagai further stated that the DMK and Congress, forming the India Block alliance, represent a natural and ideological coalition. He questioned the notion of disagreement, noting that in every election, all parties, including smaller ones, demand more seats. We will ask for what we need, and Chief Minister Stalin will certainly consider it. There are no issues; everything is proceeding smoothly. He also dismissed rumors regarding discussions with the Tamilaga Vetrik Kazhagam (TVK), asserting that no talks have taken place. Who claimed we spoke with TVK? I am the PCC president, and my high command has not instructed me to engage with them directly or indirectly. We do not engage in secretive politics.

These remarks come amid ongoing discussions between Congress and DMK regarding seat allocation in the state. Meanwhile, Girish Chodankar, in charge of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in Tamil Nadu, expressed optimism about the ongoing negotiations with DMK leadership concerning seat distribution.

Chodankar mentioned that both parties have shared their wish lists, and as soon as the agreement is finalized, they will inform the public. We are hopeful and confident that our requests will be met. The elections for the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly are expected to take place in the first six months of 2026, where the alliance led by MK Stalin aims to present the 'Dravidian Model 2.0' to secure victory against the BJP-AIADMK coalition.
