Saurav Ghosal Appointed Sports Commissioner
World Premier Squash (WPS) has announced the appointment of Saurav Ghosal as its Sports Commissioner. This decision brings one of the sport's most esteemed figures into a pivotal leadership position as the league prepares for its inaugural season this August.
Ghosal, the first Indian male player to break into the Top 10 of the PSA World Rankings, boasts an impressive record with 11 titles, 9 medals from the Asian Games, and two decades of elite competition experience. He has previously served as the Men's President of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) and co-Chair of the joint Athletes Commission for both PSA and World Squash, the sport's governing bodies. In his new role, Ghosal will be responsible for establishing and managing the league's comprehensive sporting framework, which includes competition formats, player qualification pathways, and officiating standards.
Opening Doors for Emerging Talent
World Premier Squash aims to merge elite professional competition with an accessible global pathway, utilizing advanced AI technology. Among the 24 players in the league, including reserves, 8 will be top-tier professionals. The league will also host AI-enabled challenges on the Future of Sports Platform (FSP), allowing competitors from around the world to qualify for up to 16 additional spots without the need for an agent, prior ranking, or geographical limitations. This initiative provides a direct, merit-based entry into one of the sport's most competitive arenas.
Ghosal emphasized the importance of grassroots development, stating, "The best squash players often emerge from communities and clubs that are not in the limelight. World Premier Squash recognizes this by leveraging AI-enabled challenges on the FSP platform to connect every segment of the global squash community, offering aspiring players a legitimate pathway to success, no matter where they are from."

This appointment comes at a crucial time for squash, as the sport is set to make its Olympic debut at the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This historic moment is expected to attract significant global investment, increase participation, and renew commercial interest in squash.
