Indian cricketer Sarfaraz Khan has officially joined the Team India camp as they prepare for the first Test match against Sri Lanka, set to commence on August 15.
This match marks the beginning of a two-match Test series. Unfortunately, Sai Sudharsan, who was slated to play at number three, has been sidelined due to an injury, paving the way for Sarfaraz to step in as his replacement. He shared a selfie on Instagram, showcasing his fit physique after dedicating months to fitness training.
Overview of Sarfaraz's International Career
Sarfaraz last represented India in a match against New Zealand in November 2024, a series that resulted in India's first home series loss in 12 years, marking a historic whitewash. Earlier that same year, he made his Test debut against England. Although he was included in the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia for 2024-25, he did not get the opportunity to play.
In his six Test matches and 11 innings, Sarfaraz has accumulated 371 runs, averaging 37.10, which includes one century and three fifties, with a top score of 150.
Strong Domestic Performance Fuels Comeback
Sarfaraz's return to the national team follows an impressive domestic season, where he scored 429 runs in seven Ranji Trophy matches, averaging 53.62, including one century and one fifty, with a highest score of 227.
In the T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he amassed 329 runs in seven innings at an average of 65.80 and a strike rate of 203.09, featuring one century and three fifties.
During the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he recorded 303 runs in six matches, averaging 75.75 with a strike rate of 190.56, which included one century and two fifties.
His stellar performances earned him a contract with CSK worth Rs 75 lakh, where he scored 161 runs in seven innings at an average of 23.00 and a strike rate nearing 170, including one fifty. Recently, he played in the Mumbai T20 League for Aakash Tigers MWS, scoring 161 runs in five innings at an average of 32.20 and a strike rate of 214.67, with one half-century.
