Nalbari, April 5: On Sunday, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal campaigned in Tihu, showing strong support for Chandramohan Patowary and expressing optimism about the NDA's chances in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections on April 9. He criticized the Opposition for their previous governance.
During a Vijay Sankalp rally held at the Tihu High School playground, Sonowal encouraged voters to participate in the elections with a sense of “national consciousness” and to support a leadership that has consistently prioritized Assam's development and stability.
He praised Patowary, stating, “Chandramohan Patowary has approached every task assigned to him with dedication and sincerity. Leaders like him have significantly contributed to both Assam and the BJP, and his capabilities are unquestionable.”
Sonowal highlighted the NDA government's achievements, claiming that significant measures implemented since 2016 have effectively reduced corruption and fostered development.
“The transformation since 2016 is evident. Our administration has operated with transparency and resolve, which is why we enjoy widespread support throughout Assam,” he remarked.
He criticized the Congress party, alleging that they facilitated illegal immigration during their governance.
“Under Congress rule, illegal infiltration was permitted, leading to many Bangladeshis settling in Assam, which has posed long-term challenges for the state,” he asserted.
Additionally, he announced the government's commitment to reclaiming encroached land, stating, “In the near future, we will recover nearly five lakh bighas of land as part of our initiative to safeguard Assam’s resources and identity.”
Expressing confidence in the NDA's electoral success, Sonowal predicted a significant victory.
“The NDA stands united across Assam, comprising BJP, AGP, and BPF. Our alliance candidates are set to win in every region, from upper to lower Assam. We are confident of securing over a hundred seats,” he declared.
He dismissed the chances of Opposition candidates, asserting that public sentiment clearly favors the ruling alliance.
“The feedback from Tihu indicates that the BJP has already earned their trust. The community desires a stable government that serves their interests, and that is what we have achieved,” Sonowal concluded.
The rally attracted a large audience, with party members and supporters expressing confidence in Patowary’s candidacy and the NDA's overall electoral prospects in Assam.
