During a media interaction in Thiruvananthapuram, he remarked, "Gauti bhai (Gautam Gambhir) and I share a very old bond. I first met him while playing for KKR, where he was the captain. He resides in Delhi, and I trained at the same academy he did, so our connection spans many years. The journey from then to now is beyond words."

Outstanding Performance in the Tournament

Samson delivered an exceptional performance throughout the tournament, accumulating 321 runs across five innings, boasting an impressive average of 80.25 and a strike rate of 199.37. His tally included 27 fours and 24 sixes, making him the third-highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup. Notably, he surpassed Virat Kohli's previous record of 319 runs from the 2014 edition, marking the highest runs by an Indian in a single T20 World Cup.

A Heartfelt Message from Sachin Tendulkar

The 31-year-old wicketkeeper-batter also disclosed receiving an emotional message from cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. "I received a message from Sachin, sir, which was very touching for me," Samson shared.

India's Historic T20 World Cup Victory

India made history by clinching their third T20 World Cup title, becoming the first team to defend the title while hosting the tournament. They achieved this remarkable feat with a 96-run victory over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

A Remarkable Comeback

Samson's journey in the T20 World Cup was marked by a significant comeback, overcoming challenges of inconsistency and being benched. He emerged as India's top run-scorer, delivering crucial performances, including a series of half-centuries from the virtual quarterfinal against West Indies to the final against New Zealand.

Emphasizing Authenticity in Cricket

Samson emphasized his desire to remain true to himself, viewing cricket as a team sport. "I never aimed to be selfless; I always wanted to be myself. I bring various strengths and weaknesses to the game. We play to win, and reflecting on my recent experiences, I carry many dreams with me. Many young individuals, not just in cricket but across various fields, see me as a reflection of their own aspirations," he concluded.
