Sanjay Raut Discusses Support for Sunetra Pawar Ahead of Baramati By-Election

Sanjay Raut's Remarks on Baramati By-Election

Sanjay Raut, a member of the Shiv Sena (UBT), extended his best wishes to Sunetra Pawar, a leader from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), as the Baramati assembly by-election approaches. He emphasized that the final decision regarding support for the Maha Vikas Aghadi will rest with party chief Uddhav Thackeray. During a press conference on April 6, Raut acknowledged the presence of multiple political parties in Maharashtra and reiterated his support for Sunetra Pawar, stating that discussions have taken place between Uddhav Thackeray and her. He noted that the election season is upon us, which will involve campaigning, scrutiny, and the voting process.

Raut highlighted the political legacy associated with the NCP in Baramati, mentioning that it has traditionally been an NCP seat where Ajit Pawar has consistently contested. He pointed out that Ajit Pawar was the candidate representing the NCP, and now his wife is running for election, having communicated with Uddhav Thackeray. Raut clarified that Shiv Sena (UBT) will not request the Congress candidate to withdraw, emphasizing unity within the MVA alliance. He stated that the Congress is part of the MVA, and they will not demand the withdrawal of their candidate.

Regarding internal coalition discussions, Raut confirmed that there was no confusion within the MVA and that decisions were made collectively. He referenced conversations between Uddhav Thackeray and NCP chief Sharad Pawar concerning the by-elections. Criticizing the BJP, Raut responded to comments made by BJP leader Nitish Rane, asserting that there is no connection between the BJP and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, accusing the BJP of distorting history. According to the Election Commission, the by-elections for the Baramati and Rahuri assembly seats in Maharashtra are scheduled for April 23, with the counting of votes set for May 4.
