On July 28, Sanjay Raut, a member of the Shiv Sena (UBT), expressed his disapproval of the new anti-paper leak legislation introduced by the central government. He claimed that the "largest paper leak racket" operates within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and emphasized that merely passing a law will not resolve the issue. Speaking to a news media outlet in New Delhi, the Rajya Sabha MP described the proposed law as an outdated bill with harsher penalties, noting that significant protests by students have already occurred.
Concerns Over Paper Leak Issues
Raut acknowledged that discussions regarding paper leaks are necessary, recalling that the largest protest against such issues took place at Jantar Mantar in India. He remarked that the introduction of a new bill seems to give Prime Minister Modi a sense of accomplishment. Raut further pointed out that the only change in the bill is the increase in prison sentences from one year to ten years and the hike in fines from ₹1 crore to ₹10 crores.
Allegations Against BJP
He raised concerns about appointments in key educational institutions, alleging that the most significant paper leak racket is run by the BJP. In the NEET paper leak case in Maharashtra, all arrested individuals were linked to the BJP. Raut stated that the party appoints vice-chancellors and holds positions in major educational boards responsible for conducting exams like NEET, suggesting collusion in these activities. He concluded that simply introducing a bill will not bring about any real change.
Legislative Developments
On July 27, Union Minister Jitendra Singh presented the 'Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026' in the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, sources from the 'India' bloc indicated that the Congress party plans to address this bill in the Lok Sabha on July 28, with senior leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, KC Venugopal, and Gaurav Gogoi participating.
