Sanjay Bangar Predicts Chennai Super Kings' Lineup for IPL 2026
Chennai Super Kings' Potential Batting Order
Sanjay Bangar, a former all-rounder for India, has shared his insights regarding the potential lineup for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. During a discussion on Star Sports, he proposed that Sanju Samson, who was traded from Rajasthan Royals for ₹18 crore, should occupy the No. 3 position in the batting lineup.
Bangar emphasized that Ruturaj Gaikwad should continue to open the innings, paired with Ayush Mhatre. He believes that having Samson at No. 3 will enhance the team's stability, with Dewald Brevis following at No. 4. The fifth position could be filled by either Shivam Dube or Kartik Sharma, which would significantly strengthen CSK's batting depth.
Robust Middle Order and Bowling Strategy
The Chennai franchise has made substantial investments in their middle order, acquiring Kartik Sharma for ₹14.20 crore and Sarfaraz Khan for ₹75 lakh. Bangar remarked that the batting lineup appears quite powerful as they prepare for the new season.
He also pointed out a shift in CSK's bowling strategy, noting that Rahul Chahar, who was bought for ₹5.20 crore, is likely to be a key player in a spin duo with Noor Ahmad. Historically, CSK has seldom utilized Indian leg-spinners, but Chahar's diverse skill set and capability to contribute lower in the batting order make him a significant asset.
The bowling unit is further enhanced by international pacers Matt Henry and Nathan Ellis. Henry, acquired for ₹2 crore, is anticipated to take on the new ball, while Ellis is known for his effectiveness in the death overs. Additionally, Khaleel Ahmed provides a left-arm option, and Prashant Veer, another high-profile signing at ₹14.20 crore, could ensure CSK has three frontline spinners alongside three fast bowlers.
