This achievement occurred during the semi-final against England at Wankhede Stadium, where they combined for an impressive 97 runs for the second wicket. Their performance was crucial in fortifying India's innings, leading to a formidable total of 253 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs.

Previous Records

Prior to this, the record was held by Robin Uthappa and Yuvraj Singh, who scored 84 runs for the third wicket against Australia in the 2007 T20 World Cup in Durban. Additionally, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav had a notable partnership of 73 runs for the third wicket against England in the 2024 tournament.

This tournament has highlighted India's struggle against slower deliveries, but Samson has excelled, surpassing Rohit Sharma's previous record of 15 sixes in a single T20 World Cup edition with his 16 sixes this year.
