Samosa Scandal Resurfaces: SP Alleges DGP Sabotage in CID Investigation
New Developments in the Samosa Scandal
Shimla: The long-forgotten 'Samosa Scandal' has made headlines again, sparked by serious allegations from Shimla Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Gandhi against Himachal Pradesh's Director General of Police (DGP) Atul Verma.
During a press briefing earlier today, SP Gandhi accused the state's leading police figure of obstructing the investigation into the notorious leak of a confidential document linked to an internal CID report. This report was associated with a hospitality mix-up at a CID event last year, which was attended by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and resulted in significant public and political backlash.
“The leak was not a mere accident,” Gandhi stated. “A letter was intentionally removed from the DGP’s office and disseminated in a calculated violation of protocol. Evidence suggests that senior officials, including members of the DGP’s personal team, were involved.”
As the investigation unfolded, SP Gandhi noted that institutional pushback intensified. “The DGP himself tried to hinder the inquiry. I have lodged several complaints about this interference, which have gone unanswered,” he emphasized, highlighting the seriousness of his claims.
The scandal originated from a CID-organized event in 2024, where refreshments, including samosas and cake from a luxury hotel, were mistakenly served to the Chief Minister's security detail instead of him. An internal report was created following the incident, but its confidential details were leaked, leading to embarrassment for the state government and raising critical concerns about internal security measures.
Initially, the incident was brushed off as a minor administrative error. However, the leak of the CID report escalated the situation into a significant controversy, which local media dubbed the 'Samosa Scandal.' Although Shimla Police initiated a formal investigation, SP Gandhi claims that it was intentionally obstructed.
