Patel Commends Kohli's Chasing Skills and Rohit's Leadership

Samit Patel, a former all-rounder for England, has expressed admiration for Virat Kohli's exceptional ability to manage run chases. He also highlighted Rohit Sharma's leadership and explosive batting style, calling both players among the most thrilling to watch in cricket.

During an interview at the ongoing World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2026, Patel praised Kohli for surpassing the 15,000-run milestone in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He emphasized Kohli's calm demeanor and his skill in adjusting his game based on match requirements. "King Kohli is a master at chasing. His composure, skill level, and ability to shift gears are remarkable. Rohit Sharma, with his explosive batting at the top, is dynamic and a joy to watch. He is a powerful leader and one of India's finest," Patel remarked.

Thoughts on the 'Fab Four' and World Cup Predictions

Patel shared his views on the cricketing 'Fab Four,' a term popularized by New Zealand's Martin Crowe. He believes that Kohli, along with Joe Root from England, Kane Williamson from New Zealand, and Australia's Steve Smith, will always be included in this elite group. "For me, it will always be Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, and Steve Smith," he stated.

Looking ahead to the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe, Patel predicted the semi-final contenders. He mentioned, "You can't overlook Australia. India will consistently be a strong contender. England will likely be there, and I wouldn't dismiss South Africa either."

Encouragement for Young Talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

The former England cricketer also addressed the rising star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, urging patience from Indian cricket fans. He emphasized the importance of allowing the 15-year-old left-handed batter time to grow and learn from his experiences, rather than imposing high expectations too soon. Sooryavanshi has garnered attention for his aggressive batting style in the Indian Premier League and domestic matches.

"I see Sooryavanshi as a young talent who is still learning. It's crucial to give him time to make mistakes. Indian cricket can sometimes be impatient. He is just a kid and needs support. His talent is evident, especially when he can take on top bowlers like Jofra Archer right from the start. Indian cricket should nurture him," Patel advised.

Patel's Performance at WCL 2026

Currently, Patel is playing for the England Champions in the WCL 2026. His team has secured victories in two out of four matches, placing them second on the points table. They are set to compete against the Australia Champions in their final league match on Wednesday, where a win will ensure their spot in the semi-finals.

Patel has represented England in six Tests, 36 ODIs, and 18 T20Is from 2008 to 2015. He also had a lengthy domestic career with Nottinghamshire, making 629 appearances for the county over 22 years, contributing significantly with both bat and ball.
