In a thrilling Group B match of the 135th Durand Cup held at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Samaleswari Sporting secured a decisive 4-1 victory against Baghpat FC. The Odisha team showcased their strength with Basit Ahmed Bhat scoring two goals in the second half, while Marat Tareck and Gnohere Krizo contributed with first-half goals. Crispin Cleetus managed to score the only goal for Baghpat FC.

After a narrow loss in their opening match, Samaleswari Sporting made a strong comeback, achieving their first win of the tournament and keeping their hopes for qualification alive. Conversely, this defeat marked the second consecutive loss for Baghpat FC, who are making their debut in the Durand Cup.

Fast-Paced First Half

The match kicked off with both teams eager to attack. Samaleswari took the lead in the 10th minute through a quick counter-attack. Rashid M. sprinted down the right and set up Krizo, whose shot was saved, but Marat Tareck was quick to tap in the rebound.

Baghpat FC equalized in the 30th minute when Piyush Sikarwar assisted Crispin Cleetus, who scored with a stunning left-footed shot from outside the box, finding the top corner.

Just before halftime, Samaleswari regained the lead when Basit Ahmed Bhat's free-kick deflected off Krizo and went over the goalkeeper, ending the first half at 2-1.

The second half saw Samaleswari dominate the game, controlling possession and dictating play. In the 56th minute, Basit Ahmed Bhat scored again, finishing off a corner taken by substitute Veer Arjun Joshi, extending the lead to 3-1.

With a comfortable lead, Samaleswari slowed the pace of the game, effectively managing the remainder of the match. They limited Baghpat's chances and maintained control, nearly scoring a fifth goal in the 90th minute when Armand Bazie's long-range shot went just wide.
