Samajwadi Party Expels Three MLAs

Lucknow: On Monday, the Samajwadi Party (SP) announced the expulsion of three of its current MLAs: Abhay Singh from Gosaiganj, Rakesh Pratap Singh from Gauriganj, and Manoj Kumar Pandey from Unchahar. This decision was made due to their involvement in activities deemed detrimental to the party and a deviation from its core ideology.

The announcement was made via an official statement shared on the party's X account.

The statement highlighted the legislators' alleged alignment with ideologies that are 'communal, divisive, and negative,' which stand in stark contrast to the party's foundational values of socialism, harmony, and progress.

The SP's post elaborated, "Given their ongoing opposition to the interests of farmers, women, youth, entrepreneurs, and working professionals, as well as their support for ideologies that contradict the SP's principles, the party has decided to expel the following MLAs in the public interest: Shri Abhay Singh, Shri Rakesh Pratap Singh, and Shri Manoj Kumar Pandey."

The party also mentioned that these MLAs had previously been granted a 'grace period' to reconsider their political affiliations and return to the party, but they did not take this opportunity.

"This grace period has now concluded. Moving forward, those engaging in activities against the public interest and opposing the party's ideology will not have a place within the Samajwadi Party," the statement added.

Additionally, the party warned the expelled members, stating, "Wherever you are, remain trustworthy."

These MLAs had previously shown dissent during the Rajya Sabha elections in 2024, where they cross-voted in favor of the BJP despite being party members.

Although the SP had enough support to send three candidates to the Rajya Sabha, the cross-voting by at least seven of its MLAs allowed the BJP's eighth candidate, Sanjay Seth, to win, resulting in the loss of the SP's third candidate.

Since the Rajya Sabha elections, these MLAs have been seen engaging with the BJP, attending its events, and distancing themselves from the SP's political stance.

Despite their expulsion, the three legislators will still be recognized as Samajwadi Party MLAs in the Assembly records until further legislative measures are taken.
