Astana: In a remarkable display of skill, two-time youth world champion Sakshi secured India's inaugural gold medal at the second World Boxing Cup, dominating the women's 54kg final on Sunday.
The 24-year-old athlete showcased her aggressive style, winning by unanimous decision against Yosline Perez from the USA.
The Indian team has had a successful campaign at the World Boxing Cup, already guaranteed a total of 11 medals.
Previously, India earned six medals during the first leg in Brazil, which included one gold and one silver.
In the initial session, four Indian boxers competed, with Sakshi emerging victorious, demonstrating impressive speed and effective combination punches.
Earlier, Meenakshi fought valiantly against local favorite Nazym Kyzaibay in the 48kg final but narrowly lost with a 3-2 decision.
Jugnoo (men's 85kg) and Pooja Rani (women's 80kg) will also return home with silver medals after falling short in their respective finals.
Jugnoo lost 0-5 to Kazakhstan's Bekzad Nurdauletov, while Pooja faced a similar fate against Australia's Eseta Flint.
Looking ahead, four more Indian boxers are set to compete for gold medals in the evening session, with Brazil leg gold medalist Hitesh Gulia (men's 70kg) leading the lineup alongside Abhinash Jamwal (men's 65kg), Jaismine (women's 57kg), and Nupur (women's 85+ kg).
