The Saigalu Nalwar Mela, a traditional festival organized by the Gram Panchayat Kasan, began on Saturday with much enthusiasm. The eight-day event was officially opened by social worker and professor Anupama Singh, who highlighted the festival's mix of cultural evenings, traditional rituals, and lively sports competitions.
Cultural Showcases and Local Talent
Panchayat Pradhan Bhintra Devi emphasized that the fair aims to highlight local traditions and talents. Two major cultural evenings are planned, featuring performances by regional folk artists. Additionally, women's groups will contribute cultural acts, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
A notable feature of the mela will be the ceremonial arrival of local deities, reflecting the area's rich religious heritage and customs.
Engaging Youth through Sports
In addition to cultural events, the mela will include various sports competitions such as volleyball, kabaddi, and badminton, promoting active involvement from the local youth.
Celebrating Local Spirit
During the event, chief guest Professor Anupama Singh praised the community's strong participation, which she described as the festival's true essence.
“This celebration embodies the spirit of ‘Local is Vocal,’ preserving rural traditions. Such events not only foster social unity but also help the youth connect with their cultural roots,” she remarked.
Addressing Local Development Issues
In her speech, Professor Singh also addressed the developmental hurdles faced by the region.
“Despite seventy-eight years of independence, areas like Kotli still lack basic amenities such as roads, education, and job opportunities. The unresolved issue of NH-003 continues to be a challenge. Until the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is approved and construction begins, this struggle will persist. I promise to support you through every challenge,” she assured.
A Grand Welcome and Community Participation
The inauguration featured a traditional welcome with drums, folk instruments, and colorful processions. Over 15 women’s groups participated, adding to the event's splendor. The gathering also included Panchayat Up-Pradhan Roop Singh Thakur, BDC members, local police officials, and representatives from the Brahma Kumaris organization.
The fairgrounds were bustling with villagers, who expressed their excitement for the eight-day festivities. Many believe that the Saigalu Nalwar Mela will bring joy and a sense of community spirit to the region in the days ahead.
